Romain Strock

Hi, I'm Romain Strock.

I'm currently pursuing a PhD in microbiology at Imperial College London & MRC LMS in Tobias Warnecke's lab.

My focus is on antagonistic interactions between archaea and bacteria. Check out my first pre-print: "Systematic genome-guided discovery of antagonistic interactions between archaea and bacteria" (Strock et al., 2024; bioRxiv). DOI: 10.1101/2024.09.18.613068

I have over 10 years experience in data science / ML / AI / software engineering. I'm still contracting to support myself through the PhD. Reach out if you are looking for an experienced data scientist or bioinformatician.

Alma mater – MSc Machine Learning from UCL.

I occasionally blog about biology, AI, software engineering, or anything piquing my interest at the moment.

Highlighted post – Modeling uncertainty with PyTorch, where I explore how to parametrize a probability distribution with a neural network for the purpose of estimating uncertainty surrounding ML predictions.

Open source – Covariance Matrix Adaptation Evolution Strategy (CMA-ES): a TensorFlow implementation of the state-of-the-art evolutionary algorithm for challenging continuous optimization problems.
